When it comes to living room ideas, color wise, specialists recommend opting for shades that reflect the personality of the recipient. At the same time, the role of a color is to delineate a balanced and impressive space, both for the owner and for the guests.
In this article, we will discuss color trends for the living room. We chose to focus on the tonal differences between two well-known design styles, namely: modern and classic.
MODERN DESIGN STYLE
Modern design encompasses many different reinterpretations. This makes the concrete definition of this style relatively difficult. Simply put, modern interior design represents the transposition of the principles of modern art into home design. There are a few central features and design themes that could define this style.
Most homes decorated in modern styles use neutral colors and shades of black and white throughout the home. Often, primary colors are used as accents to help balance neutral tones. At the same time, these colors draw focal points in the space. Strong colors can be easily integrated, but are rarely used as the predominant color. Examples of using bright colors in modern design may include:
- Abstract works of art;
- A unique piece of furniture in a strong color, for example a red leather sofa or an orange plastic chair;
- Some brightly colored decorative cushions;
- A decorative rug;
- A perete of accent.
IDEAS TO LIVE – CREAM COLOR
When it comes to living room colors, lighter shades of white, beige, and cream are often used for good reason. They help to visually expand the space, increasing the degree of brightness. If you opt for a cream interior, it is recommended to highlight the space by adding some colorful details.
Purple accents, such as pillows, accent chairs and textiles, balance the living room harmoniously. Gold details, as well as the color palette of the room, will express luxury and elegance.
The living room in the photo is furnished in a modern style, in which cream predominates, in alternating tones. In this house, the construction of a space that was both elegant and warm was followed. In order to balance the extremely large space, it was decided to use curtains and draperies that matched the shade of the sofa. Decorative cushions in strong colors contrast with the chromatic neutrality of the space.
LIVING IDEAS – GRAY AND GOLD
One way to brighten up a plain living room is to opt for shades of gold in the colors of the space.
This is a great method for transforming an ordinary space into an attractive and personalized one. Another possibility to integrate this scheme is to create a wall with shades of gray and one gold, for a tasteful contrast.

LIVING IDEAS – GREEN AND GRAY
The color gray is a trend that continues to grow. It looks elegant and looks great in combination with metal elements.
The living room in the photo belongs to a modern style studio. The predominant color is gray, accented by brightly colored decorative elements, such as green and purple. Subtle industrial style accents are visible, like the lighting fixtures.
CLASSIC DESIGN STYLE
Classic-style houses captivate with their serene colors and the atmosphere of an imperial residence. Today, classic interiors are chosen by those who prefer stable cultural values and traditions rather than fleeting trends.
Classic shades are calm, neutral, creating a soothing interior atmosphere. The most frequently used colors are: olive green, beige, cream and gold in finishes, furniture and textiles. It is also appropriate to use all shades of brown (the color of natural wood). At the same time, avoid setting up a dark space. For upholstery and textiles, blue, blue-green and sandy shades are often used.
IDEAS TO LIVE – WASHED PINK
Pink is a unique color choice for the living room. A pale pink is a great way to add a slightly feminine touch to a space, with patterned chairs, sofas, cushions and rugs.
Since pale pink is also a versatile color, you can choose any color that complements the atmosphere.
In the photo we have a living room furnished in a classic style, with delicate touches of beige, white and salmon pink. The room is enhanced by natural light, filtered by elegant pink curtains.
LIVING IDEAS – ALTERNATING BLUE AND SHADES OF BROWN
The complementarity between blue and brown can represent an inspired choice for homeowners who want a comfortable and intimate space.
To highlight this aspect, specialists suggest decorating the walls of the living room with blue lacquered wallpaper. Furniture in brown tones and accessories are added to create an intimate atmosphere, conducive to relaxation.
In the picture we have an open space living environment, arrangement displayed in the Delta Studio Cluj-Napoca showroom. TV cabinets are made from the same material as kitchen cabinets. He opted for the blue color palette with cream and brown, which brings a vintage touch to the environment
