MOYO DESIGN BLOG | Interior Design and Decorating Trends

At the invitation of Ritzenhoff, MOYO was presented with the challenge of designing a concept that represents the sophisticated, masculine design that conveys the company’s beer glass. Ritzenhoff.

The challenge of designing the concept was based on inspiration from the world of motorcycles and Bikerswhich is generally associated with the spirit of freedom and independence of life, conviviality and leisure.

The patterns created for this cut are based on the most important component of an engine: the pistons. These have the shape of an inverted cylindrical cup, the surface of which directed towards the combustion chamber is called the bottom or piston head. This part is normally made of aluminum, which moves inside the cylinder of heat engines.

Through a flat design silhouette, our glass expresses several symbols that associate the world of motorcycling with the pleasure of a good cold beer, represented by the double symbolism of the graphic taken from the motif of the “pistons” which simultaneously represent the mechanical component, as well as the bubbling of the crystalline drops of an iced glass of beer.

Still in the same “piston/crystal” design, we have the “Iron Cross” emblem, which refers to the symbol of German military decorations, who after the Second World War placed this symbol on their motorcycles and coats, thus demonstrating that they were former Air Force officers.

We couldn’t help but share our pride at being highlighted on the Caras Magazine thanks to the participation of MOYO in the challenge proposed by the prestigious glass brand Ritzenhoff to several national designers to create an illustration for one of the beer glass designs.

Ritzenhoff with Portuguese design

Helena Ladeiro’s creation – the “Champus” cup – was very successful with more than 50,000 units sold worldwide and made her part of the elite of designers who regularly collaborate with the brand. She is joined by Ângela Ladeiro and Nuno Ladeiro, with further designs for the 2011/2012 “Champus” collection and a variety of design items that have achieved huge sales figures worldwide.

Who is RITZENHOFF

The RITZENHOFF journey began more than 100 years ago in Marsberg, in the Sauerland region of Germany, one of Germany’s best-known high-tech glass factories.

Em 1994 the collaboration with two key designers Massimo Iosa Ghini and Alessandro Mendini took the brand beyond borders, taking it to remote countries like Iceland or Singapore.

From 1995 the concept has extended to other types of cups and objects, “dressing” them with strong colors and original patterns, as if they were a work of art.

One of the reasons Ritzenhoff chose this path was the general awareness of the brand, its association with the world of design, fashion and architecture.

They work in very close collaboration with a large number of internationally renowned designers (more than 300 designers and artists). This brand is unique as it is the only glassworks in Europe to provide all the services necessary for the development and production of glassware from a single source, producing 50 million glasses per year.

In its list of collaborators the names of Portuguese artists shine, among which we highlight 2 designers: The artists José de Guimarães and Nuno Ladeiro.

And it is not only the product itself that fascinates countless fans of decorative cups, but rather the originality of the packaging and the small products that accompany it, such as coasters or napkins.

A major breakthrough for the market of this brand was the ingenious idea of a glass of milk. Shortly after the line of milk glasses, a line of colored beer glasses, beer mugs, schnapps (brandy), champagne, wine and water glasses was created. These products are exported to more than 60 countries around the world.

Depending on the customer’s needs, various techniques can be used, including printing in up to eight colors, cushion printing, hand decoration and the application of decorative edges – in gold or platinum.

Ritzenhoff’s goal is that in every glass produced, the design is unique, exclusive and creative, truly guaranteeing moments of pleasure and high-level quality.

Thus, the Ritzenhoff brand has become not only a commercial success but also a cultural project recognized throughout the world.
