One of the most eclectic decorating styles, industrial style emerged in New York in the late 1960s. Artists and hipsters began transforming old warehouses into modern lofts with rustic decor. The main characteristics of industrial style environments are space and functionality. Without walls to delimit the rooms, the furniture is responsible for defining the spaces. Shelves are great options for this function.

Designed to integrate living spaces with practicality, a tip for furniture is to compose the environment with high design pieces, fabrics that offer maximum comfort and fun and elegant decorative objects.

Structural elements, conduits and pipes are exposed in contrast with sophisticated decoration. Cool materials like concrete and steel contrast with the use of wood, warm colors and indirect lighting, which add warmth to the space. The peeling walls highlight the materials used and create drama for the spaces, giving them an industrial feel.

vintage style

The term “Vintage” refers to an item produced in centuries past, or at least around 20 years earlier. In design, it indicates pieces considered to have value and prestige due to the materials used and cultural reasons. Vintage style draws heavily on past trends, between 1950 and 1980, regarding the use of certain colors, graphic elements and furniture that help create a different environment.

In this style of decoration, appreciation of the past and personal history – of childhood memories, of grandparents’ house – is embodied in interior spaces, in a welcoming, spiritual and attractive way. Different memories, colors and textures take on meaning through personal interpretations, forming a unique whole.

Many vintage pieces were created in the American tradition of the 50s, with references to Las Vegas: intense colors and iconic images. Among the most famous designers of this era were Charles and Ray Eames, creators of the Eames chair. In English fashion, the style represents elegance, balance and irony.

The International Vintage style combines different universes in a more eclectic vision with collectible touches, always aiming to remember an era, a style, a fashion and even films.

Minimalist style

Among the decoration styles, this one renounces ornaments and ornaments, and the furniture alternates with empty spaces, paying the greatest attention to space. Utility and aesthetics are in perfect harmony and the elements are geometrically defined.

In the Minimalist Style, the most used materials are the simplest and most industrial: wood, metal, glass. Colors are limited to white and gray, with some specific color details, such as neon fluorescent tubes. Lighting is a fundamental element in creating environments with a unique atmosphere. Artificial lighting with simple elements, such as wall lights, highlights the architecture.

Among the most influential architects and designers of this style, we have Mies Van der Rohe, theorist of “less is more”, creator of the Barcelona armchair.

Provencal style

Provençal style refers to an ideal of simple, carefree living, and its spaces often replicate the character and atmosphere of family vacation homes. Inspired by the beautiful French homes of the 80s, this style of decoration brings light colors and delicacy.

The environments are familiar and welcoming: the diffused lighting and furniture from another era help to take you away from the daily hustle and bustle. To create a relaxing effect, rustic furniture is covered in light fabrics. Raw linen and lace are often used to create a feeling of lightness.

Decorative baskets are essential in this style of decoration. Colors appear in details and flowers are widely used in ornaments, prints and ceramics.

Scandinavian style

This style of decoration refers to countries like Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland. These countries have a climate with short and almost always cloudy days, which requires light colors that bring light to the environments. A characteristic of this style is to attempt to create a warm and natural environment. This is why it is common to find simple elements like wood, wool, cotton and stones.

Scandinavian design has a high quality reference, and is characterized by ergonomic and refined pieces. A tip to avoid mistakes is to use classic pieces like the Saarinen table and the Egg armchair.

The choice of furniture is a mix of decoration styles: contemporary pieces with other traditional furniture, rich in history. The combination creates a minimalist effect with a rustic touch. The ornaments are preferably artisanal and technological objects, useful and modern. The Wireflow pendant light is a standout piece in this room:

Other decoration styles

There are also several other styles that you can take inspiration from, but the advice here is that you take a little of what you like and create your projects.
