Rosita Missoni – Founder of Missoni

An iconic Italian brand Missoniis known today for its irreverent and original fabrics, knits and products, generally inspired and recognized by their shapes, such as the zigzag.

Everything has a story and in the case of Missoni it began in 1948, during the Olympic Games. Rosita, a young woman born into a family of textile industrialists, met Ottavio Missoni, an athlete for the Italian athletics team, who was also a manufacturer of sports equipment.

They married and started a weaving business in 1953, in the small town of Gallarate, in Lombardy, Italy, where they produced colorful knitwear that they sold to other brands.

In 1958 the small fabric company presented its first collection in Milan and in 1960 it presented its collection of dresses which, due to their originality and quality, began to appear in fashion magazines. It was then that Rosita began to produce simple pieces, with prints inspired by African designs.
Since then, the brand has become a fashion icon.
