The bedroom should be the most comfortable room in the house, right? A place where you can watch a movie, read a good book, calmly get dressed and, above all, sleep. This must be your refuge; this space that you are looking for for moments of relaxation and tranquility.
There are several ways to make your bedroom a special corner. From the choice of colors to the choice of decorative objects, everything helps to convey the feeling of comfort you are looking for.
An important point that helps create this environment – a mixture of functionality, beauty and warmth – is lighting. A well-thought-out lighting design can make all the difference in the end result.
And to help you with your bedroom lighting, we offer you 9 tips to create the perfect environment for moments of rest and leisure. Check it out!
1. Carefully calculate the room size
The first thing to consider in any bedroom lighting project is the size of the room. Larger spaces naturally require more light than smaller ones. But this does not mean that it is enough to increase the number of lamps distributed around the room and everything will be solved.
If the place is more spacious, you can create more than one environment: each will have a different lighting proposal to respond to the functionalities designed for it. It is possible, for example, to arrange a brighter niche for reading or studying and another with dimmer light for sleeping. However, if it is not possible to achieve this variation, you can create an arrangement that solves multiple problems in a single environment.
2. Distribute light sources strategically
Placing a single lamp in the center of the room, although this is what happens most often in construction projects, is not the best way to illuminate the room. Install different points of light throughout the space, strategically positioned according to the purpose of the location. The idea is to ensure uniform lighting, capable of highlighting the corners of the room and increasing the feeling of space.
An interesting trick is to use plaster moldings with built-in LED lights. This technique contributes to a more modern design.
3. Choose the right chandelier
If you opt for a central chandelier, remember that it must reflect the style of the room’s decoration.
If it is a more modern line, you can opt for round and metallic chandeliers. If you want a more rustic environment, choose wooden ones. But if romanticism sets the tone, crystal models are the most recommended and the best thing is that they fit perfectly into rooms decorated with wallpaper.
In addition to achieving this combination – which makes all the difference in the environment – it is also important to observe whether these decorative elements contribute to diffusing the lighting or concentrating it in a specific point. Choosing the right chandelier should be made based on your light distribution needs.
4. Use curtains and take advantage of natural light
A room that receives natural light is more airy and can be a great option for saving energy. However, in this case it is worth investing in curtains, which allow a better dose of light and guarantee the privacy necessary for the space. After all, there’s nothing more uncomfortable than waking up early in the morning with the sun on your face.
Another advantage that curtains offer is that, when chosen carefully, they contribute aesthetically to the decoration of the room.
5. Opt for adjustable lights
There are several options for lamps and switches with variator on the market, which allow you to adjust the light intensity. This option is perfect for adapting the brightness of the room to the desired climate.
If you want to make the room more romantic and cozy, simply reduce the intensity. On the other hand, if you want to read or need to do your makeup for that evening, just increase the intensity.
6. Invest in lamps and lampshades
And you will win, that’s for sure. These objects are perfect for decorating the room and also help to distribute light sources. For those who like to read, a lampshade (or a luminaire) is the big wild card in lighting planning. Installed next to the bed, both guarantee perfect light for reading.
7. Pay special attention to closet
It is necessary to place bright lamps near the furniture or inside the closet to make choices easier when getting ready!
Just be careful not to put them in places too close to your clothes, as they could burn from the heat of the light. If this is unavoidable, you can opt for LED lamps, which do not generate heat and, therefore, would not damage the parts.
This is a solution which can also be very interesting for cupboards very stuffy. This way, you don’t run the risk of “heat dying” or “sweating profusely” while getting ready.
8. Be aware of surfaces that reflect light
A good light distribution project must pay attention to the positioning of light points. Taking advantage of mirrors and other reflective surfaces to improve the lighting of the space can be an interesting resource, especially when we are talking about natural light or diffuse and indirect light.
On the other hand, place direct light sources, such as tasks or lamps – facing reflective spots can create glare (that uncomfortable effect that occurs when strong light is reflected directly into a person’s eyes). So be careful when choosing the position of your light source. The ideal is to do a few tests from different angles!
9. Choose the right type of bulb
As we already mentioned in the text, hot lamps can burn your clothes. This is not the only problem, however. The heat produced can raise the temperature of the environment, which becomes extremely bothersome in naturally warmer locations. On the other hand, this can prove strategic in colder regions.
Another point you need is the color of the light. White focuses more on activities that require concentration, such as working or reading. Yellow brings a more cozy feeling and invites you to rest.
Yellows are generally best suited to the bedroom, but you can do a test to see which one you like best. If you want to have a reading corner for example, you can also choose to place a white bulb in a specific lamp.
An idea that can add charm to bedroom lighting is the use of LED strips. Easy to apply — without the need to call on specialized professionals — they give the possibility of using different colors to create incredible effects.
By following these suggestions, you will be able to create a lighting project for your bedroom that meets all your needs and will make the space even more beautiful and cozy! Better impossible, right?
